Since 2013, I've been selling handmade artwork at Jackson Square in New Orleans and sharing my creative process on my newsletter, blog and website. I believe the work of an artist is finding the strength to speak with their own voice and to shape their unique perspective into form. Into my artwork I pour my undercurrents of experience, understanding and intuition to produce inspirational works which feed the soul. It is my intention to make content that supports people through meditations on emotional embodiment, integration of self and prayerful expression.
As an "Art Witch" my creative practices integrate my life experience as an artist, healer and spiritual seeker. Creativity is a ritual practice where I cast magic onto canvas to create transformational talismans. I believe that radical healing comes from knowing that we are part of a living earth system and are intimately interconnected with the cosmos. I strive to express this worldview through my artists journey.
I'm a self taught artist and my creative process is informed by training in Reiki Energy Healing, a certification in Holistic Massage Therapy, Silvia Nakkach's certification in Sound, Voice and Music Healing, a BA in Art History from Rutgers University, an interdisciplinary MFA in Creative Inquiry from the California Institute of Integral Studies, 3 years of studying the Lightning Spiral Tarot through the Pacific Mystery School with Pamela Eakins and advanced study in the Faerie Faith as interpreted by Francesca De Grandis in her Third Road tradition. Through my studies I have developed a perception of how sound, shape and color influence our sense of relationship to our environment. I've learned our bodies are subtle tuning forks that pick up resonance from around the room and across the cosmos. My journey has turned my art making into a devotional practice, a source of bliss and a sanctuary from the pressures of life.
It is my joy to send art out into the world. Now that I find myself with a spot in the creative marketplace of Jackson Square I practice making paintings that offer compassion and radiate empathy. I call my primary series Beautiful Bodies as I use skeletons with a heart to offer loving expressions of heartfelt connection. Each skeleton is a little life coach guiding the viewer with a bit of empathic wisdom. They are a form of “Momento Mori”, or macabre celebrations of life and death. In my art skeletons symbolize our essential connection to nature and the heart is a reminder of our capacity for nurturing relationships. My other body of work is Portraits of Rivers which are an offering of gratitude to the rivers of the world. This body of work celebrates our ecological systems as an interconnected whole and reminds that our physical, psychological and spiritual bodies are embedded in relationships to the natural world. Each river is depicted like a tuning fork echoing across the surface of the Earth.
I find my audience is made of empathic powerhouses who are drawn to my discussion about art as a healing object. Art inspires personal transformation and I am here to guide my viewers into a relationship with their heart. It can take work to learn to live with an open heart as every day we are challenged to relearn how to love. I want my art to be there to help as a source of wisdom on a journey into wholeness, greater self awareness and the building of bliss into our lives.
